The Phoenicians’ Route refers to the connection of the main nautical routes used by the Phoenicians from the 12th century BC onwards as essential itineraries for trade and cultural communication in the Mediterranean basin. This itinerary crossed all the countries in the Mediterranean basin, many of them in North Africa and the Middle East and that led to the strengthening of the historical links between the countries. These links are represented by a huge heritage originating from Mediterranean civilisations that date back thousands of years and can be seen not only in numerous archaeological, ethnic, anthropological, cultural and natural elements in all Mediterranean countries but also in the important Mediterranean intangible cultural heritage.
The aim of the Phoenicians’ Route for travellers to discover our common itineraries, connecting three continents and more than a hundred cities, all with their origins in Mediterranean civilisations that date back thousands of years.
