Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción
La Purísima Concepción Parish Church is a 17th century construction in Galaroza built in a classical style from the end of the 17th century, with its original feature being the depth of the presbytery, which allows for seating in the choir.
This building was designed by the famous architect and master builder of Seville cathedral, Asensio de Maeda, in 1594. It was constructed using stonework with brick buttresses.
The side façades and the front façade are built from marble and they present elegant, classical designs.
The building houses a splendid collection of altarpieces from different origins and chronology. Most of these were donated or sponsored by Ms Teresa Vázquez, the widow of Osborne. The altarpiece located in the presbytery dates from the second half of the 18th century and is an altarpiece with estipite columns from the disappeared church of the Convent of Victoria de Estepa.
There are statues with imagery such as the Divina Pastora by Cristóbal Ramos, the statue of Cristo de la Buena Muerte by Antonio Castillo Lastrucci, and the Virgen de los Dolores by Juan de Astorga Cubero. The sculpture that presides over the altarpiece is an image of the Immaculate Conception, created by Juan Bautista Patroni in 1798.
This church is nestled in the historic centre of Galaroza, which has been classified as a Site of Cultural Interest.
