Centro de Estudios Lorquianos
The premises of the Lorquiano Study Centre are located in a municipal building that was the school building of the Town Hall of Fuente Vaqueros from the 1930s. It was opened as a Study Centre and Archive on June fifth 1998, the centenary of the birth of Federico García Lorca.
The Fuente Vaqueros Lorquiano Study Centre is an extension to the FGL Cultural Heritage. The library holds a bibliographic collection of over 5,000 volumes and copies of about fifty magazines from that time which are largely single numbers or facsimile editions. This foundation is highly specialised in the life and work of FGL but also includes a large section dedicated to other members of his generation and the cultural and political life of the time.
It is of great interest to students and lovers of Lorca and his time, and it holds editions from the late 19th century to the most recent publications.
The Archive is divided into a number of collections in each of which we find a wide range of documentary types, with special mention for the collection of Lorca's manuscripts, letters, drawings and works by some of his contemporaries such as José Caballero, Dalí, Gregorio Prieto, Benjamín Palencia…, theatre programmes and posters, photographs, film and sound material, newspapers, etc. It covers a period of time from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. It is an open archive because we are continually receiving new additions from donations and purchases.
Monday to Friday, 10 am to 2 pm.
Free admission.
