The Archaeological Museum in Frigiliana was, at the time, the first of such importance in the Axarquía. It is located in the Casa del Apero, a beautiful 17th century building. Visitors can trace the history of Frigiliana, from the Neolithic era to the present day, through its 125 pieces, all discovered within the municipality and displayed in chronological order to make it easier for the visitors to understand. The highlight is the skull of a child, dating from the Neolithic era, between 4000 and 5000 BC., which was found in the Bats' Cave. Also very interesting is a 16th century Moorish dagger, found in the Fort and perhaps used to end the life of a Christian during the battle of El Peñón.

The Phoenician vases found in El Cerrillo de las Sombras are especially outstanding, both because of their good condition, as well as their characteristics and design.

The Museum's logo is one of the drawings which appeared on one of the vases: Amon-Ra was an Egyptian god, his name in hieroglyphics is engraved on a what is a jewel of the 6th century BC. found very far from Egypt, in Frigiliana, exactly in the Cerrillo de las Sombras, a necropolis in which numerous objects appeared.

The archaeologists who have explored the origins of Frigiliana have found in Los Poyos del Molinillo the original urban settlement, discovering that it is one of the most westerly sites in the Argar Culture, from around the second millennium BC. They have also investigated the origins of the Neolithic settlement, finding several sites in caves.

The Archaeological Museum in Frigiliana also has a hall exhibiting contemporary art and another which regularly exhibits art of very different kinds.
