Virgen de las Angustias Shrine is located on the outskirts of the town, on the same hill where we find a fountain called Fuente del Nacimiento, in Cerro de la Martina in the municipality of Los Frailes, in Jaén.
There is no information about the origins of the Virgen de las Angustias Shrine, but it is popularly known as the Shrine of Calvario, since it was a stop on the Via Crucis during Holy Week. That is why on the path that goes up to the shrine we come across 14 marble crosses that used to be made of wood.
In addition to being one of the most recognisable landmarks when you arrive in Frailes, it offers stunning views of the town as it stands on one of the highest points in these hills.
