Exploring Cazorla with animals
Though different animals may be seen at Sierra de Cazorla, it is also a delight for exploring the paths in their company,… i.e, with our dogs. Let's see what we can do in Cazorla if we are travelling with our pet.
If your aim is to travel to the Sierra de Cazorla with your dog, you will find many rural accommodations to choose from. And if your friend is physically fit, opportunities for enjoying countless routes in all of these mountains are endless. Like the source of the Guadalquivir River that fascinates us just as if it's the first time one sees it, in the heart of the mountains.
La Fábrica de Nacel Río
Speaking of birthplaces… that's the name of this country house, an ideal option as a rural hotel for travellers with dogs. It peers over an incredible countryside that captures us instantly, and not only for its view. The sound of the water pursues us at each step we take. Imagine a good get-away with your best friend: somehow, he'll surely appreciate it. If you decide to stay in this old flour mill over 200 years old, located just two kilometres from Cazorla, you will find cosy rooms, a cosy lounge in winter (but cool in summer) and a wonderful swimming pool.
Paradise in a wood cabin
These bungalows in Cazorla that welcome dogs, if like those of Los Enebros -in Arroyo Frío, La Iruela-, promise a truly unforgettable stay, located in the open countryside (no hurries or noise, no light pollution, next to another world, almost). You will discover this when spending the night in these handmade cabins built with care and using black pinewood, equipped with every convenience of civilisation. What more could you ask for?
My dog and I, camping in Cazorla
Several campsites of the mountains for camping with your family and your best friend, if you take him with you: Puente de las Herrerías (Cazorla); Cortijo San Isicio and Cañada Catena (Beas de Segura), and Montillana (Hornos de Segura). The one at Cortijo San Isicio, at 834 metres above sea level, near the town of Cazorla, has ecological certification: to the extent that electrical appliances are not allowed, a firm commitment to peace and sustainability. But animals? Yes, thanks.
Some recommendations for a trip with your dogs
The experiences of travellers who dare to take their dogs on holiday with them, whether in the surroundings of Cazorla or to other natural areas of Andalusia, are suitable recommendations, like the following:
- The first one, always have the leash fastened, as your friend must be tied: both for safety as well as for the other hikers with whom you share the paths
- In routes like that of the Borosa River, in the heart of Sierra de Cazorla, natural springs are many: ensure that your dog can stop, cool down and drink water regularly (the route takes three hours to complete). And do not forget your pet's food!
- Always find out about the characteristics of the route and bear in mind the age, race and physical condition of your dog. Verify whether the ground is suitable, or not, for taking your pet with you, so its pads and legs will not suffer.
