The Virgen de la Luna pilgrimage, declared a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, is celebrated in honour of the patron saint of Pozoblanco and Villanueva de Córdoba. It takes place twice a year in Villanueva, the second Sunday of October and Whit Monday.
In the Cordoba region of Los Pedroches, the devotion for the image of the Virgen de la Luna has given rise to two deeply rooted and striking pilgrimages: one in the municipality of Pozoblanco, with a marked military character; and another in Villanueva of Cordoba with a more popular ritual.
The image's shrine is in Dehesa de la Jara, flanked by the brotherhood houses of both towns. The pilgrimage goes between granite walls through the heart of the meadows, the best preserved meadow landscape in all of Europe. On the Villanueva of Cordoba pilgrimage there is very interesting stop in Pozo de la Legua and another three unmissable stops, each marked with a cross, which have been recognised as properties of cultural interest.
