Biography
Eva María Garrido García was born in Frankfurt (Germany) in 1970, but only spent a few days in Teutonic lands. Her parents had emigrated there but on Eva´s birth they returned to Granada, their place of origin. It was there where she began to dance, learning from La Mona, Angustillas del Sacromonte and Mariquilla. She gained training in the field of theatre with Juan Furest, with the choreographer Johannes García and in the field of dance with Mario Maya, to whose company she belonged for two years. Later she became independent and worked with artists such as Javier Latorre, Manolete, El Güito, Merche Esmeralda, El Pele and Joselito Fernández, until she created her own school in Granada in 1986. She was already a prestigious dancer when in 1992, she refused the La Malena Award in Cordoba´s National Competition as she thought she hadn´t danced to the 'soleá´ style well, whilst in other styles her talent hadn´t been recognised. She has worked in the field of cinema with the American director Mike Figgis. She has her own company with her husband, the guitarist Paco Jarana, alongside who she has triumphed with the shows Eva and 5 mujeres 5, both presented in Sevilla´s Biennial.
