A Sailor in the Land: fish auction and seafood tapas in Estepona's port area
Life in the fishing port is a hustle and bustle of activity with boats arriving with fish, people with a lifelong connection to the sea, and wholesalers buying fish. You will undoubtedly be amazed and gain insight into this ancient trade! We offer an excursion to the port, where you will experience a 'cultural immersion' to learn first hand about the world of artisanal fishing and the activities at the fishing port.
We will see the most common species of fish in the Mediterranean and the Alboran Sea, the types of boats and fishing systems, you will learn how the fish is sold at the fish market and how the fish is labelled, the trade of net-makers, octopus fishing and much more.
Unloading the fish at the fishing dock, an event that takes place every afternoon in the port, waiting for the trawlers to return from fishing. Discover what the live fish auction at the fish market is like and how the fish should be labelled, as well as many other curiosities that happen to us fishermen in our daily lives. We will visit the traditional and colourful Fishermen's Quarter with its spectacular chapel and Plaza de la Virgen del Carmen.
We will finish with a delicious seasonal seafood tapa, including an accompanying seafood guide and educational material.
