The Church of Santa Maria la Mayor is located in Estepa, in the province of Seville.
During the Moorish period a Mosque was built here in the 10th century. The town was reconquered in 1241 and a Mudéjar church was built in the 14th century of which a number of arches and pillars have been preserved.
The current appearance of the church dates back to the late Gothic period at the end of the 15th and 16th centuries. The most interesting artistic features are the main altarpiece by Andrés de Ocampo, a carving of San Juan Evangelista attributed to Juan de Mesa and a 15th-century font.
For visits, it is recommended to contact with Estepa`s Tourist Office.
