Espera
A small village located in the north of the province, near the province of Sevilla, amidst an area of open countryside through which the River Salado flows. It is the site of Espera Marsh Complex, consisting of three lagoons, Hondilla, Salada de Zorrilla and Dulce de Zorrilla, which has been declared a Nature Reserve.
The village is spread across a hillside and crowned by Fatetar Castle, its main place of interest.
History
The area around the present-day village was inhabited in ancient times, as proven by the archaeological remains of the Iberian town of Ouria and the Roman city of Carisa Aurelia.
On the hill that dominates the village landscape stands Fatetar Castle, used by French troops during the War of Independence.
