Alcalat Castle

Alcalat Castle, located on the highest point of Espejo, is preserved in perfect condition. It has been renovated many times and this has substantially altered its original construction plan to adapt it to a stately room. Built on Roman foundations, in a prime location in the heart of the town, six towns in the province can be seen from it. This 15th-century building is surrounded by thick crenellated walls, flanked by four corner towers, also crenellated, a central courtyard with blind arches; in its basement there is a spacious cistern; and rising up from the beautiful site we can see the machicolated keep. Detached from the main building we find the Caballero tower, also built to defend the castle. The site is enclosed by solid walls.
