Located in the region of the Vega del Río Guadalquivir, between Córdoba and Almodóvar del Río, between the Sierra de Cordoba and its Countryside.

At the south of the town, on the banks of the meandering of Encinarejo, it is possible to find the spectacular Torronteras de Rojas, who become the natural boundary between the Vega and the Countryside of Cordoba.

The quality of the land has resulted in creation of an agricultural model based on intensive irrigated Guadalmellato. This, however, is compatible with the preservation of a rich landscape of natural riverbank.

Encinarejo enjoys a privileged environment, which contribute to its flat terrain, the diversity of landscape (the northern Sierra, the Countryside to the south), the Guadalquivir river, the riparian forest vegetation and wildlife that inhabits it, in which they were counted more than 115 species of birds.

History

The historical roots of Encinarejo are very recent, dating from the 50s of the twentieth century, though human occupation in the village is much older, dating to the first century, dating from the Roman remains found, possibly of a Roman settlement called "Auxinianos", according to surveys.
A late Roman villa, with a clear agrarian vocation, sleep under the town today. In this ancient settlement, Auxinianos probably, happens a period of intermittent occupation until the late forties.
In 1949, the National Institute of Colonization expropriated and founded the village of colonization, under the name of Encinarejo de los Frailes.
