History
It seems that the original name of the village was Puebla del Saucejo. It was located on the border between Christian and Moorish territories, and had very few inhabitants until the end of the 16th century, when the Duke of Osuna decided to attract settlers to the village. They settled around existing farmsteads, giving rise to hamlets which eventually formed El Saucejo in the 17th century.
The village has had its present-day name since 1661.
