Dunas de San Antón
This Dunas de San Antón Peri-urban Park is outstanding because it is perfectly conserved and integrated within the town of El Puerto de Santa María. This ecosystem is, in turn, set on living cliffs made of very fragile materials such as sand, marl and clay, interspersed with resistant layers of reef stone. It all comes together in an interesting coastal landscape. Special mention should be made of the proximity of the Guadalete River.
It is a stone pine wood set over coastal dunes, with undergrowth of coastal broom and mastic. Varied wildlife can be found along with this vegetation, and special mention should be made of valuable populations of chameleon, an endangered species. It is also an important stop on the route of migrating birds.
The Dunas San Antón are excellent for countryside leisure activities. There is a recreation area next to the promenade. A walk around here offer views of Cadiz Bay and its coastline. Furthermore, its location next to La Puntilla Beach with its fine, golden sand, offers a full range of coastal activities and sports such as sailing at its yacht club.
