Ladrón de Miel is the dream come true of an environmentalist who decided to start a business in rural Andalusia, specifically in El Gastor, Cadiz.
The El Gastor Farm, below the Tajo de Lagarin, is a natural paradise. We maintain a biodiverse landscape with centuries-old olive trees and beehives with bees. With the help of bees, we pollinate our own almond trees and promote the conservation of plant diversity. Every year we plant more honey-producing plants, such as lavender, rosemary and thyme. All this among centuries-old olive trees, which serve as a habitat for birds and insects. By protecting the soil, they continue to produce healthy olives for our own organic, early harvest extra virgin olive oil.
I invite you to enjoy a guided tour of the bees and hives. Discover the beauty, fascination and importance of beekeeping. After an introduction to how a hive of bees lives and traditional beekeeping techniques, we will put on our beekeeper suits and dive inside the hives.
Together, we will look for the queen bee, learn to differentiate between drones and workers, and learn about the bee dance (their form of communication). You will discover how bees also make bread (bee bread), you will learn to distinguish between cultured honey (finished and sealed) and unprocessed nectar stored in the honeycomb... and much more. Of course, the day can't end without you tasting the delicious honey.
