Biography
Manuel Vega García was born in Sevillana Calle Sol on 8 February 1906. His father was a coal merchants of fame in Seville from Benacazón and it's not certain whether he was a gypsy. From here comes hisnickname, with when he was presented for the first time at Novedades inSeville, where Manuel went to accompany his father, who was a great amateur. Then he sang in many other rooms of the city and soon started drinking.
He performed in shows at Vedrines and appeared with artists like Cepero, el Cojo de Málaga, la Niña de los Peines, el Corruco, Pepe Pinto, Vallejo, Caracol. He formed a duo with Pepe Pinto in the 1920s until in 1929 he recorded his first albums with the guitarist Niño Ricardo. But he drank too much and at age 30 was diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis, and died on 6 April 1937. However, his fandangos are still part of the most distinguished flamenco. His repertoire also includes other songs he interprets with mastery, like seguiriyas and soleares, the tarantas or the rhythmic colombianas.
