The Cultural Association Città Aperta suggests an excellent route to get to know the city of Écija. It is a guided tour of the places where the bandits hid, the same ones who brought fame to the city.

Banditry and looting took place up until not so long ago as almost everyday events in our society, identifiers of our cultural identity, as seen from the perspective of the Romantic writers who were fascinated by these archetypal characters that go deep into our past: bullfighters, flamenco dancers, flamenco singers, Gypsies, and of course, bandits.

These writers introduced Andalusia to the world, and are considered the first authors of "tourist postcards" of our land.

Because of this, bandit activity was more legend than history, as the different sources who speak about them are limited (about their status as outlaws, among other things) and they attempt to mystify the protagonists in the style of legendary epics of heroes.

As we know, Écija has a surname of seven towers and children.

There have also been many authors who have not associated this gang of bandits with this city. But more documented studies have lead us to their places of residence, marriage and baptism, which are found here.

To take in this eighteenth-century city, we will trace the route that takes us through the wildest and bloodiest side of the city, but also its most authentic.
