Dogs permitted. Stay in Huelva with your pet
There is a growing number of accommodation establishments where staying with your pet poses no problem at all. The tourism options in Huelva are with the times in this regard: either on request, or openly pet friendly.
We wanted to immerse ourselves in places where you can get lost with your best friend; where finding a hotel for dogs and travellers is quite easy. Heading up from the Mazagón coast to the tiny village of Valdelarco, you must pass through the mythical village of Almonte before reaching the town of the Gruta de las Maravillas (Aracena), or the heights of Alájar, where the highest mountain pass in the province is located. This excursion has three requirements: hotel, Huelva, pets. Take your dog and follow us.
Torre del Loro Beach
You won't forget a sunset in Mazagón in a hurry, with the powerful ruins of the semi-unspoilt beach Torre del Loro silhouetted against the horizon. These remains show the vestiges of what was once a fortification against Berber pirates, but which now serve as a stage on a simple, golden, elegant and well-equipped area. This landscape points you in the direction of Doñana Playa Campsite, which is a privileged, pet-friendly spot located on the road that runs from San Juan del Puerto to Matalascañas. Cabins, huts, camping area, ameboide pools that will delight children… and the abundant woods that bear the hallmark of Doñana Nature Reserve. How about that!
Valdelarco: mountain peace
Valdelarco offers something different. Situated on the northwest side of the Sierra de Hinojales, its sun-drenched houses stand as an example of popular mountainous architecture that blends perfectly with its natural setting and its distinctive points, like the riverside wood at the Barranco del Pueblo. Las Posadas de Valdelarco, among the accommodation options that permit dogs in Huelva, are wonderfully charming country houses that invite you to rest and enjoy hiking with your pet. As with other lovely villages in the region, gastronomic interests have an outstanding protagonist: Iberian pork.
In the heart of the countryside
Another rural option of great interest leads you to Aracena. In the midst of Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, La Estancia Villa Rosillo is an accommodation option you can hire in the company of your dog. From its lovely garden, which has a swimming pool, you can enjoy quality views: you can see the grandiose Aracena Castle. The establishment features clean house linen, air conditioning (or a fireplace to heat the house naturally), and décor in which neighbouring Portugal features prominently, whether through tiles or ceramics. That said, it's a charming place. Staying in the heart of the mountains, you will find Alájar. This town is home to Posada Finca La Fronda, a superior country house whose location makes it perfect for astro-tourism. We recommend climbing the Peña de Arias Montano to obtain the best panoramic view available in the town.
The heritage of El Rocío
The tour finishes in Almonte. At this point, both you and your pet will have enjoyed plenty fresh air. Now's the time to stop at the outskirts of El Rocío, at La Aldea Campsite, which has the honour of being named after this famous pilgrimage destination. What does this campsite have to offer, in addition to admitting animals? A lot. Accommodation to suit your taste, whether travelling as a family, on a break with friends or on a romantic weekend for three (we mean you, your partner and your dog!). There are no crowds here. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Maximum relaxation next to Doñana, and an inevitable look at El Rocío's traditions. Horse riding excursions are just one of the many activities organised here.
