Biography

Daniel López Vicente, Dani de Morón, was born in Seville on 6 September 1981. His father is from La Lantejuela and his mother is from Salamanca, but Dani has always lived in Morón. He did not start playing guitar when he was small because he admits he did not like flamenco back then However, Dani joined the music conservatory and when he finished the preparatory course and was going to sign up for the first year, he had to choose an instrument, but did not know which one.

He wanted to pick piano but his father convinced him to take up guitar. He left the conservatory and went to lessons with Alfonso Clavijo, who had been a pupil of Manolo Morilla. Then Dani also became his pupil and thanks to him he fell in love with flamenco.

Later on he became a pupil of El Leri and nine months later he began playing solo. Even so, Dani chose to focus on accompanying dancing, so he had to move to Seville because there were not many opportunities in Morón. Back then he won first prize in Hospitalet for under 18s. In Seville he met El Mimbre, Matilde Coral's brother, and he started to accompany dancing. His debut with him was in 1999 and he played with him until El Mimbre died. After that, Dani started playing at contests again, such La Unión.

He won in Calasparra in 1999 and he started working for the Montegil club. His style moved further away from the Morón school, because Dani had a much better technique and was much more gifted that the rest of guitarists in his town. This caused problems for him in his town, but he insisted on adapting to the new trends and declared his admiration for guitarists such as Juan Carlos RomeroChicuelo or Pedro Sierra, amongst many others.

He became so popular that he was hired by Antonio Canales to play in his company. There he met Viejín and he learnt a lot from him - he basically developed his abilities for accompanying dancers. Daniel is currently the best budding guitarist in Morón and one of the most promising young flamenco guitarists.
