After eight o'clock at night on the third Sunday of September every year, the Cristo de la Luz (Christ of Light) is raised by the residents of Dalias, in the province of Almería, to begin its procession. When it comes out the church doors, the starting flares and the first fireworks are set off. Then the race begins with the non-stop noise and glow of fireworks.
At midnight, the Cristo reaches the square to be put back in. All the town lights are turned off and the flares are lit. Then, the most spectacular fireworks show begins to bid farewell to the Cristo de la Luz until the following year.
