The Moors and Christians Festivities inCúllar, in honour of the Virgen de la Cabeza is a tradition that dates back to the end of the 17th century and was held until the third decade of the 20th century and was taken up again at the beginning of the 1980s. Since then these festivities have become increasingly popular each year, and so much so that they were declared Festivities of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
These festivities always take place on the last weekend in April and usually last 5 days although the activity starts months beforehand with the preparation of the floats, the booths and other features. During the weekend there are parades of the Christian and Moorish squads, children's activities and activities relating to the participation of the musical troupes of Moors and Christians.
The latter include announcements by town criers, the "coronation of kings and queens", "role playing", etc. And then there are the events relating to the mass and procession of the Virgen de la Cabeza.
