Castillo de Villaricos
The Villaricos Castle Information Point, next to the Mediterranean and the village of Villaricos (Cuevas del Almanzora), offers all the information you need to enjoy this wonderful marine environment.
Visit this “glass tower”, which is another name for this castle, and discover the Information Point and a small temporary exhibition centre. It was built in the 18th century as a watchtower, like other towers in the area – Macenas and Mesa de Roldán – at a time when Berber pirates used to come over to take people as slaves.
From here you can discover the history of Baria and its necropolis, and of how it gradually became an important port from which to load minerals from the nearby mountains onto ships.
Tuesday to Saturday: 10.30 am. to 1 pm. and 6 to 8 pm. Sundays: 10.30 am. to 1pm. The information point is only open in July and August.
