Since 1948 the Taberna La Montillana has been providing its services in the centre of Córdoba, replacing the old “Vinícola La Montillana” tavern, which had been a meeting point for Cordoba's diverse social groups since the 40s. Two decades later the first José María Montilla Club for bullfighting enthusiasts was founded here, he was a famous Cordoba bullfighter of the 70s, and it became a meeting point for university students. Today the top two floors have been converted into a restaurant.

Even in the early days the Taberna La Montillana was already renowned for its wines and tapas. It has managed to preserve the traditional spirit of Cordoba tavern right up to the present. The cuisine is traditional and market based, prepared with seasonal produce of the highest quality and everything is home-made.

As for the wines, those produced locally play a leading role, wines such as sherry, young wines, wines served by the jug, Oloroso, Amontillao, Palo Cortado and Pedro Ximénez, all Montilla-MorilesDesignation of Origin.

The decoration is dominated by the bullfighting theme, featuring such works by the Cordoba artist Fernando García Herrera as a life-size "Picador" (4 x 2.40m) and portraits of the five kings of bullfighting from Cordoba (Lagartijo, Machaquito, El Guerra, El Cordobés and Manolete), and paintings by Canito López, including one which is dedicated to this tavern

Everyday from 12 noon to midnight.
