Platería Califal
Declared Tourist Artisan Point of the autonomous region and included in the Route of Tourist Interest in the historic quarter of Cordoba, Platería Califal are 4th generation jewellery makers. These artisans create jewels of Caliphate style filigree, using traditional methods of Andalusian jewellery dating back to the 10th century. Using silver with finenesses of 925/1000 and coated with white gold with ceramic glazing for metals, they are inspired by the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the palatial city of Madinat Al-Zahra.
You can contemplate at its shop-workshop the production of these gems in real time, and will receive a detailed explanation of the traditional work methods of the Caliphal period, which they have themselves recovered. Their shops present a unique exhibition of Caliphate Silverwork from the 10th century.
The production method is very similar to tile-making, which tricks the eyes, giving the sensation that precious stones are being seen, when, in fact, these are stained-glass windows that reveal unique nuances with the sun and light passing through.
Furthermore, in addition to other recognitions, they have earned the brand “Joya Cordobesa” granted by the Provincial Association of Jewellers, Silversmiths and Watchmakers of Cordoba San Eloy and the ”Carta de Artesanos”, a distinction issued by the Regional Government of Andalusia.
Everyday, from 11am to 9pm.
Free visit to the workshop.
