It belongs to a group of churches built during the Reconquest, also called "Fernandinas", because San Fernando founded 14 parish churches after the reconquest of Cordoba. It is known that some of them were actually built on old mosques or old Christian churches.

These churches combine different styles - a transition from Romanesque to Gothic, with Cistercian influence and Mudejar elements. Almost all of them are built with reused materials: that is why some of them have Roman and Moorish columns.

The Church of San Miguel still has its original primitive look with caliph Mudejar pieces of art (the baptismal chapel and the Epistle side doorway) and Romanesque elements. Hebrew characters can also be seen.
