Venta Melchor
In 1960, as work on the Aswan dam began, the restaurant Venta Melchor was created in el Colorado, alongside the N-340 Mediterranean Motorway. Founded by the current owner's parents, Joaquina and Melchor, for travellers to rest and refresh.
The exceptional location in the heart of the Conil vegetable garden, and its proximity to La Jandawaters, favoured the development of a traditional, homely and familial cuisine, prominently stew-based, with dishes made from local produce and game, as well as fish from this exceptionally fortunate coastline.
The Venta Melchor is now the culinary hotspot of the La Janda area, where you can try everything from artichokes with broad beans and seasonal snow peas, to the award-winning V Sinfonía de Atún de Almadraba (5th symphony tuna captured in tunny nets), encompassing a large gastronomic variety tailored to the exceptional produce offered by the vegetable garden and the Conil coastline all year round.
All of which you can wash down with a wine from the cellar, whose selection is specially matched with the cuisine and includes almost all the celebrated local wines, such as the not-to-be-missed sherry and manzanilla varieties.
From Tuesday to Sunday, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
