The countdown to the most wonderful time of the year has begun in the beautiful Andalusian cities!

Andalusia is always warm and welcoming and is getting ready for Christmas with a mixture of lights, colours and traditions.

In the south of Spain, the Christmas season is truly special: the cities become magical places where there is a festive atmosphere that invites you to celebrate and meet up with the family. Residents and visitors across the eight provinces can't wait to start enjoying the magic of Christmas in Andalusia.

The long-awaited Christmas lights switch-on will soon take place in Andalusia's cities. You're probably wondering when they are going to happen in 2023:

Malaga:

In Malaga, the first Christmas lights can be seen on 24 November. The streets come to life with artistic lighting, from the iconic Calle Larios to many amazing spots throughout the city. New lights will shine, creating a festive atmosphere that will invite everyone to explore and enjoy the city.

Seville:

The magical city of Seville will light up on 2 December: the boulevard of Avenida de la Constitución will become a dazzling light show that the whole family will enjoy. This fairy-tale city invites everyone to partake in the joy of the Christmas season.

Cadiz:

Cadiz City Council traditionally switch on the Christmas lights before the Constitución and Inmaculada bank holidays at the beginning of December so, just like in previous years, Christmas in the city will begin on 24 November with the lights switch-on.

Huelva

The city will switch on its Christmas lights on 24 November (Black Friday), giving you even more reasons to visit Andalusia at Christmas! La Gran Via will hold one of the main light displays, but other iconic areas will also be lit up, such as Plaza 12 de Octubre, the area around the cathedral, Plaza de las Monjas and the neighbourhood of El Matadero. The lights will stay on until 6 January, and there will also be cultural and musical activities for the whole family.

Cordoba:

Tradition comes to life in Cordoba with the long-awaited Christmas lights switch-on on 1 December in Calle Cruz Conde. This beautiful light show reflects the unique charm of Christmas in Cordoba!

Almería:

The city of Almería is getting ready for a Christmas with a long list of cultural events and outdoor activities, turning the streets into exciting places to rendezvous with friends! The date for the official lights switch-on is 1 December and it will kick off the Christmas season with joy and lots of fun in Plaza de las Velas (on Rambla Federico García Lorca next to the Gran Hotel).

Granada:

In Granada, the most typical spots will be bursting with lights and colour from 2 December (date TBC). Plaza Bib-Rambla will once again become the main hub of the festive season, but there are also lots of interesting things to be discovered around the cathedraland neighbourhoods like Realejo and the Albayzin. The lights will enhance the beauty of the Alhambra during the holiday season.

Jaén:

Last year, the Christmas lights switch-on in Jaén took place on 3 December. Jaén City Council has not yet confirmed the exact date for the Christmas lights switch-on in 2023; however, as they are traditionally switched on before the Constitución and Inmaculada bank holidays, it will happen at the beginning of December.
