Bodegas José Mellado Martín

Bodegas José Mellado Martín is a winery situated in the municipality of Chipiona, in Cadiz. After producing wine for a long time, the Mellado Martín family professionalised its production using the knowledge that had been passed on by the founder from generation to generation, adding new nuances to the natural wine-producing talent of José Mellado.

The family had been making artisan wines since the early 20th century and José Mellado Martín decided to establish his own winery in 1974. Until then they had produced wine for Domecq, Garvey, Terry and Real Tesoro, to name a few. A few years later, in 1980, he created his own brand and launched Chipiona Playa de Regla muscatel. Its premium version that is aged for longer was created five years later – the sinfully sweet Moscatel de Pasas Solera de la Abuela. In 1990 the winery was revolutionised, modernised, and it specialised to become what it is today.
