Located in the cemetery of Ventas del Carrizal, a village in the municipality of Castillo de Locubín, the tomb of Don Manuel Lopez Cano is one of the region's great attractions and one of the main spots on the Sierra Sur Route of Miracles and Saints.

Known as "Saint Manuel", he was born in 1912 and lived in nearby, in the village of Los Chopos, until he died in 1984.
He was a simple man who worked in the country, but "grace" came to him when he was older, from the Virgin Mary. He soon became famous as he could cure the illnesses of the body and soul. Many people came to him looking to be healed. He secluded himself in a small oratory in his house and there he received devotees. Manuel did good deeds purely out of love for God and never asked for anything in return. On his doorstep he always had a jar of oil ready and he would give out bread to his devotees. They would kiss his hands and pour perfume on his feet. He never wanted to be famous or have his photo taken.

"Saints never die", he announced to his devotees before dying, and that "his power would be with them always". This is why so many people visit his tomb, especially on the anniversary of his death and on the festivities of All Saints and All Souls.

Many saints are venerated in the Sierra Sur de Jaén region, such as Aceituno, Custodio and Manuel. They were serene, serious and simple people, but also accessible and still enjoy respect and devotion today.
