History
Historical noteJudging by the remains which have been found, the first human settlements date from Iberian times.
From the al-Andalus period, only remain some ruins of the old Castle of La Villeta, which communicated with several watch towers such as the la Cogolla and el Puerto.
After the Christian conquest, led by King Alfonso XI, the castle was given to the Order of Calatrava.
After the Civil War it was renowned for having served as a refuge to the maquis.
