History
A large number of Roman remains have been found in the area, such as ceramics, tombs, mosaics and small bronze sculptures, so it is believed in a Roman origin.
During the period of Al-Andalus, it had several farms and it became important for the defence from Christian attacks and as defence from the chieftain of Huelva.
During the 18th century it belonged to the domain of Texada, and developed so much that it rivalled with Sanlúcar la Mayor at the head of the region.
