Biography

María del Carmen Pacheco Rodríguez was born in LinaresJaén, in 1951. She is one of the most relevant singers of the present.

She started in the flamenco world in the midst of her family, since her father was an amateur guitarist from Linares called Antonio Pacheco. In 1965 she moved to Madrid, where she entered in contact with her first teachers: Juan VareaEl GallinaPepe el de la Matrona and La Perla de Cádiz, amongst others.

In her record debut in 1970 she was accompanied by the guitar of Juan Habichuela. Fosforito adopted her, whose influence is evident in her voice, since this has been her main source. In 1972 she went to work in Torres Bermejas sharing stage with CamarónEnrique Morentelos hermanos HabichuelaLa Perla and El Güito. Afterwards she went to Café de Chinitas and in 1978 she won in La Unión.

Her talent has permitted her to participate in all types of shows, such as Fallas "El amor brujo". She has also performed the words of García Lorca recorded by La Argentinita and in 1996 she released her most important record and perhaps the most relevant of all the recent flamenco albums: Carmen Linares en antología, la mujer en el cante, where she journeys through all the creations that have made women in flamenco. Later she put her voice to Manolo Sanlúcar´s production Locura de brisa y trino and she has worked in innumerable other projects, which demonstrate that she is the most important singer of our times.
