Minas de la Sultana – Ermita San Roque

On leaving Cala towards Santa Olalla del Cala there is a turn-off to the left signposted the Tres Encinas recreational area. This road takes you to two extremely interesting places for astronomy: the old mines of La Sultana and San Roque shrine. Both places are at the same site and easily reached; they have facilities such as a picnic area, large esplanades and there will be an electricity socket in the near future. The area around Cala has proved to be, according to surveys carried out for processing the candidacy of the Sierra Morena as a Starlight Reserve , one of the darkest places in the north of Huelva, and surprisingly dark at just a few metres from the town.
