Murallas de Puerta Tierra
The Murallas de Puerta Tierra is one of the most significant monuments in the city. It forms a barrier between the old quarter of Cadiz and what is considered Puerta Tierra, the new area on the other side of the wall.
Murallas de Puerta Tierra is a defensive structure which formed part of the ambitious defence plan against pirates and the enemies of the crown, At its centre lies the main entrance to the city and, for many years, the only entrance by land.
The Cadiz Town Council has opened the upper walkway and the tower of the Murallas de Puerta Tierra to the public, to show visitors the historic, architectural, social and cultural value of the fortification.
