Barrio de la Viña
Plaza de Santa María Square is at its centre. It is a typical, popular spot in Cadiz. This was once a working-class area, being far away from the city centre, shops and port, but nowadays it is one of the main settings for the Carnival celebrations.
In this neighbourhood we should also make special mention of its atmosphere. It is packed with tapas bars, restaurants serving excellent fish and bars for a late drink.
Also noteworthy are La Palma Church or the Plaza Pinto, popularly known as the Plaza del Tío de la Tiza, in homage to the figure of Antonio Rodriguez Martinez, a major character in Cadiz carnival who was nicknamed like that.
