El Picacho de Cabra
Located in the geographical centre of Andalusia and in Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, the Picacho de Cabra offers unique views of three morphostructural units: the Sierra Morena Mountains, the Guadalquivir Basin and the Cordillera Bética Mountain Range. Its spectacular viewpoint is called the "Balcony of Andalusia" given that you can see the land of five Andalusian provinces from it. At the peak is the shrine of the Virgen de la Sierra, the patron saint of Cabra.
It is surrounded by the expansive geological diversity of a typical karst landscape, which is evident via the presence of the limestone pavement of Los Lanchares and the rugged limestone that rises above valleys such as La Nava polje.
In the foothills of the Picacho is the Sima de Cabra, which is a chasm 20 metres wide and 116 metres deep, made famous by its appearance in the novel Don Quixote.
The Picacho forms a part of the Trail of the Ammonoids in Sierras Subbéticas Geopark.
It can be visited: on foot, by bicycle or by car. At the summit of the Picacho you will find the shrine. In its patio you can see numerous ammonite fossils encrusted in the limestone rocks that form its floor.
