Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Cabra
Located in the town of Cabra, the Municipal Archaeology Museum is the oldest local museum in the province. It is situated in the Casa de Cultura, a building that was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century.
The Cabra Municipal Archaeology Museum has symbolic archaeological pieces from both the region and the town itself. In the courtyard of the Casa de la Cultura, palaeontological and archaeological remains from different periods are displayed: the Paleolithic, Epipaleolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, Colonisations, Iberian Culture, Roman Age, Visigothic Hispania, Muslim Spain, early modern period and late modern period.
Among the pieces displayed at this museum there are Roman sculptures, such as a carving of Sleeping Eros, an image of Dionysus and a replica of a unique example of the divinity of Mithras tauroctony, the original of which is found in the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Cordoba.
Furthermore, other highlights include several Roman mosaics, ceramics from different periods, coins, a fine collection of prehistoric stone tools and especially the collection of Tartessian pots that occupy an important place in the museum, with an entire room dedicated to this archaeological collection.
