Telar de Jarapas Hilacar
Hilacar - Los Telares - Ana Martínez Martínez is a craft textile factory crafts where natural materials like organic cotton, wool and the strips of cotton fabric are used to make tapestries, rugs, bath mats, bags, tapestries, paintings, curtains and cushions finished with decorative fringes and other decorative motifs, as well as typical fabrics from the Alpujarra for curtains and bedspreads. The range of colours and different prints give their articles great aesthetic value.
This workshop started out as a personal project for Ana Martínez, a craft worker from Bubión who dedicates her time entirely to maintaining a craft threatened by extinction, for such is the traditional art of weaving with a heddle, thus recovering part of the craft textile technique used in the Granada Alpujarra.
Ana has managed to promote Alpujarra textile craft work as a result of her magnificent preparation and knowledge of the trade, being fully qualified in Applied Arts and Design (Tapestry and Carpet Technician) at the Motril Art School. She has also taken part in numerous courses and conferences related to her profession, as well as national and international fairs.
She was deservedly awarded the Andalusia Parks and Natural Areas Sustainable Development Award by the Andanatura Foundation in 2011.
And on January 17, 2012 she was granted the Master Craftsman Certificate by the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Sport for the Regional Government of Andalusia.
Besides her activity in the craft textile industry, her initiative also led her to create a craft shop called Los Telares where typical craft work from the Alpujarra is on sale, in an attempt to promote indigenous production within the region.
