Los Lavaderos Trail (Berja) - PR A 337
The Lavaderos (Berja) Trail - PR A 337, which is circular, encompasses somewhat the Minas de Berja Trail - PR-A 336, sharing some of the same sections. Its main attraction is the visit to the El Segundo facilities: chimney, garages, wash basins, slag heaps and some of the most important mining remains of the Almerian municipality of Berja.
From Mina La Memoria, where the two separate, the route is by forest track, which ascends in a series of tight bends up to the steam engine chimney of the El Segundo shaft, which is the highest part of the trail at about 1,420 metres. The whole trail is 6.8 km long, almost half of the total circuit.
From here, the trail descends gently to the old garages, then goes into the wash basin facilities, where most noteworthy are the centrifuge pools. We recommend that you pay close attention to the signposts at all times because there are a lot of junctions.
In the lower part, there are remains of houses, store houses, canteens,… The final slope, now by path, is in the most recent construction. This was the trail used by miners to go to work. Nearby is another section that coincides with the PR-A 336. Meanwhile, to the right, we can see the remains of the old sediment pond.
About 800 metres from where the two trails separate, there is a small cave, Cueva Carpio, which was used as a shelter and had a small inn for miners who continuously passed by here.
In the continuous descent, the panel indicating the end of the El Cerezo Trail - SL-A 58 can be found on the left. Just 1 km later, the path runs into the forest track which after passing the climbing area, the Tajo de la Fuente wall, it turns off to the left to reach Periurbano de Castala Park.
When we cross the watercourse, anchored to the wall, we can see the remains of the canal that was built to send the mud down to its new location.
