It is Archaeology, along with countless sciences, which is enabling the discovery and understanding of the characteristics that defined the different periods of Prehistory in Cadiz.

Benalup-Casas Viejas is the place chosen to welcome Prehistory in Cadiz, as it is an incomparable setting within the context of Cadiz's prehistory. Here is where, at the beginning of the 20th century, the cave paintings of Tajo de las Figuras Cave were discovered, near the Laguna de La Janda Cave. At that moment is when the province of Cadiz acquires tremendous scientific importance, studied by prestigious national and international prehistorians. Nowadays, this scientific work is ongoing by various institutions and professionals in the field.
