The Convent of Santa Clara was founded in 1476 by the first Countess of Belalcazar, Elvira de Zúñiga, Cordoba.
After her death in 1483, her daughters Leonor and Isabel turned it into a female monastery.
It is one of the main convents in the province of Cordoba, and fortunately it has remained almost intact over the centuries, preserving its old Gothic buildings.
