Located in the mountain village of Beas de Segura, the Villa de Beas Interpretation Centre, offering the theme of "The 16th Century and Mysticism", is housed in the building of an old convent built in the 19th century, next to the shrine of the patron saint of Beas, Virgen de la Paz. The building was erected on the ruins of the town's castle, taking advantage of and reusing a large part of the walls.
It is made up of several rooms and it tells us what the town of Beas was like in the 16th century, using aspects such as its history, the different noble families, the castle-fortress, the Order of Santiago and the "Encomienda" (labour system). It also tells visitors all about the imprint left on the town by two great mystic poets: Saint Teresa of Jesus and Saint John of the Cross.
The exhibition features original items from the Carmelite Monastery.
