Iglesia Mayor Colegiata
It is located in Plaza Mayor, at the foot of the Alcazaba. It was built in the 16th century over an old mosque.
Its original design was in Gothic style, but an earthquake destroyed a great part of the church in 1531. The new construction was ordered to Alonso de Covarrubias, who redesigned it in a typically Renaissance style with three naves covered by a transept vault divided by semicircular arches resting on great pillars.
The tower has five sections. The latter three date from the XVIII century, rebuilt after another earthquake.
