Located in the district of Baños de la Encina, in the old Infant Schools created in the 1950s, the Torreón del Recuerdo Territorial Museum is a museum complex using various interpretative mechanisms to help you discover the traditional history of the municipality, its everyday history.

El Torreón, a project that took many years to come to fruition, aspires to become a place to promote the memory of the people of Baños de la Encina and its territory.

The two floors display what has been the economic history of town during the last eight centuries, from the conquest by Castile to the present day. Moreover, one of the rooms digs deeper into local history and illustrates the Bronze Age, the Argaric period, one of the most important sites in Andalusia: Peñalosa.

The recreation of a "torruca" or local hut, an old inn, that of Miranda, and the stepped dwelling of Peñalosa are just some of the elements that enable a greater understanding of the contents; others are an old bread oven, slaughterhouse tools and traditional olive harvesting. You can also discover the cattle trails in the mountains, the strong ties the town has with its River, the Rumblar, or the complex farming systems that have marked its economic history, both “itinerant farming” and market gardening.

El Torreón will surprise visitors and both children and adults will have an exciting experience with history close at hand.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, guided tours at 11am and 4.30pm. (in summer, at 7pm). Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays, guided tours at 4.30pm and 6.15pm. (in summer, at 6pm and 7.45pm).
