All that is known is that is prior to the 18th century, as in the land registry of the Marqués de Ensenada it already appears as being in disuse (1752). Its name comes from the place in where it is to be found (Llano del Santo Cristo).

Built in blocks of local sandstone, it is 12 metres high with three levels and a diameter of 4.5 m.

In the interior there is a permanent exhibition, designed by José María Barrero, called "Historias al viento" (History on the Wind), which tells, structured according to levels of occupancy, of the types of windmills, the history and evolution of the mills until the appearance of windmills in the 12th century, the links between the town of Baños de la Encina and the windmills and work related to cereals in general, showing routes through the surrounding area of the village where the threshing beds are located, the huts of the settlers involved with itinerant farming, hydraulic mills, terraced fields of cereals, Bronze Age settlements where a large number of hand mills still appear, etc.
