Iglesia de San Mateo
Located in Baños de la Encina, the Church of San Mateo, in spite of the Gothic main body, presents us with a tower finished in the Renaissance style, as are the main doorway and the extension completed in the first half of the 18th from the transept onwards. The interior houses a grandiose altarpiece in composite style and vestments of huge proportions, the work of Franciso Palma Burgos.
Highlights include the pulpit, the choir and the font from the middle of the 18th century. But the most important feature is the tabernacle, one of the jewels of religious art in the province of Jaén. It dates from the 17th century, it is made of ebony, ivory, silver and turtle shell, and comprises a niche with a Baroque dome, framed by four columns of shell with silver capitals and plinths.
