Casa Rural Las Villas de El Centenillo
Las Villas de El Centenillo country house lodge is an emblematic property, once called “Chalé del Señor Cochet” as it was the home of one of the managers of the historic El Centenillo mines. It enjoys an excellent location, tucked away at the foot of a pine grove amid fabulous surroundings. It is an unbeatable destination to enjoy: quality leisure and relaxation.
It has five double bedrooms, four with en-suite bathroom, a spacious living room/kitchen with fireplace and private garden, with barbecue and parking for up to 5 vehicles. It is fully equipped with kitchen and household items.
El Centenillo is one of the most important mining towns in all of Andalusia. It forms part of the Linares-La Carolina Mining District, where mining was carried out from the mid-19th century through to the mid-20th century. This mining past has created a privileged cultural landscape where the remains of infrastructures and buildings stand amid incomparable natural surroundings in the heart of the Sierra Morena mountains.
Straddling the Sierra de Andújar and Despeñaperros nature reserves, its location makes it a perfect choice for those who love nature and outdoor sports. Many hiking routes have recently been created, along with other routes ideal for bird watching or for admiring the local plants and wildlife, in order to encourage sustainable, quality tourism away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Deer, mouflon, buck, lynx, eagles, vultures, wolves, meadows and cork-oak forests are just some of the many features of this privileged setting.
In recognition of its environmental qualities and low levels of light pollution, in March 2014 the El Centenillo Mines were declared a Tourist Destination and Starlight Reserve by UNESCO, which attests to the area's optimum conditions for watching the night sky and enjoying astronomy.
