You can come and discover our sixty-year-old vineyard, with bush vines planted in 3x3 metre sections, and a typical house to keep watch in case anyone tries to steal the grapes.
Things to discover
You will learn about our history, the entire growing and harvesting process, and how we prepare our grapes to be sold.
Things to do
If you come in September, you will be able to taste our freshly picked grapes, and you will be able to collect and prepare your own box of grapes to take home. Uvas Bailén was established on 2 September 2019 due to the closure of the Santa Gertrudis winery in the town of Bailén.
Faced with the concern of what to do with the grapes and to avoid having to dig up the vineyard, we decided to sell dessert grapes and use the remaining grapes for winemaking. We currently have two small vineyards (0.95 hectares in total), with about 900 vines planted in 3x3 metre sections like in the past, and the main variety is Molinera, a native grape. One of the vineyards was planted by my great-grandfather Manuel in 1962, and the other vineyard was planted by my grandfather Juan in 1980. Bailén's dessert grapes used to be very popular and were sold in the local markets of nearby towns. The goods were carried on mules, and lorries even came to take them to the north of Spain. In the mid-90s, our grapes were no longer used as dessert, but exclusively to make wine.
