Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles is a Catholic chapel located 3 kilometres from the town centre of Baena, in the province of Córdoba.
The little church is right under a rock and virtually embedded in the mountain, almost hidden from view at the foot of the Cerro del Minguillar. The chapel is only open on 13 May and 2 August to celebrate the festivity of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles.
The area surrounding the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles is bathed by the Marbella River that flows right past the chapel, the birthplace of the first settlement in Baena and where archaeological remains from the Iberian era have been found that include constructions that were part of a small town.
In recent years the planting of trees has intensified and involves a Baena municipal group of ecologists in action together with the Town Hall with a view to preserving this natural environment. The area also has a number of benches where you can rest and appreciate the natural surroundings. As it is so near the town you often see people taking a walk or riding their bicycles in this area.
